CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER keeps looking better and better.
We’ve watched 2 hulks smash on each other, men in iron suits fighting other robot men… or Extremis fire men. 2 super strong forces set on destroying and saving; whether it’s sticking to walls, fight with the power of sand, or shooting lasers out your eyes… we’ve seen all sorts of superhero rumbles.
But this is different. Like the first film in the franchise, CAPTAIN AMERICA is different. The first was a war movie, the 2nd is being described as a ‘thriller.’
It all looks good to me!
Watch the full 2 and a half minute trailer after the jump. Continue reading “CAPT.(AIN AMERICA) is back! Trailer #2 for WINTER SOLDIER.”
Now that 2013 is behind us, with Khan, Iron Man, and the Long Ranger down for the count, it is time to look forward to the movies to come in 2014!
First, an incredibly spooky trailer for the licensed version of PACIFIC RIM… GODZILLA! (From the very same Legendary Pictures as PACIFIC RIM… and HANGOVER… and DARK KNIGHT).
My early suspicions were correct.
When the Lizard was locked up at the end of the first AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and multiple villains were confirmed for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (Electro, Green Goblin, Rhino), I suspected that the franchise is headed toward THE SINISTER SIX! An Avengers style super-group of villains all working together to take out their common enemy, Spider-Man.
And there are plans for my favorite comic villain of all… VENOM!
Sony plans on extending their own Spider-Man centric movie universe similar to Marvel Studios and Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The franchise would not only have AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 (release date June 10th, 2016) & 4, but also a SINISTER SIX movie as well as a solo adventure for VENOM.
Sony announced both plans today for the franchise, as hidden on a Electro website (http://www.electroarrives.com/) based on a clue left in the amazing AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 trailer.
Classic viral marketing, something we’ve seen a lot more since THE DARK KNIGHT’s excellent viral marketing campaign.

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.
And Jesus, does AMAZING SPIDER-MAN promise a lot of power.
First, we get the thrill of the drop only experienced thus far in the games.
We see Electro, get to know Harry Osborne, learn that Peter Parker’s dad was protecting the world from Oscorps potential, see Norman in the hospital, see a glider, and if you look close enough, you will see Doc Ock’s arms in Oscorp’s ‘armory.’
Could it be we will see the Sinister Six by AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3?
Will Gwen survive #2?
Check the trailer after the jump!

Though only 2 episodes in… this week.. so far… THE PETE HOLMES SHOW has already aired multiple sketches worth sharing with you, my geek friends. As well as an interview with the master podcaster whose podcast inspired Pete’s, YOU MADE IT WEIRD.
If you’d rather pick and choose… then… you’re welcome!
First Pete Holmes returns as Xavier to fire the X-Men, Rogue.
If for some reason you have missed the other downsizing from X-Men to Ex-Men, click the corresponding links below.

Pete has mentioned on his podcast, that perhaps he has done too many Batman sketches. I think it’s time to give Xavier a rest… but only if Batman returns! (Tim Burton need not apply.)
Pete also got to talk to the man whose podcast has inspired him the most, King of the Podcasters, Marc Maron.
Continue reading “This Week With Pete! Xavier Makes Rogue an ‘Ex-Men’”
As of Saturday, November 30th 2013, the following are the cream of the crop sketches from the first few weeks of THE PETE,, HOLMES SHOW.
Those sketches I’ve already written about, because they were released first online, are not qualified for the following list. Because we’ve already covered those a month ago.
I will provide those links here, so that you can refresh yourself on the amazing sketches released before Pete Holmes’ show began…
WATCH GOOD WILL HUNTING WITH BATFLECK – Following the news that Ben Affleck is our new Batman, Pete Holmes quickly put his undeniable Batman impression to use.
WATCH PETE HOLMES FIRES WOLVERINE – What good is a hero with metal bones to a team whose nemesis can control metal?
WATCH BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN – What use is Batman to a god-like being: Superman? Is it an image thing?
WATCH PETE HOLMES FIRE GAMBIT – Ex-Men: Gambit
Now, without further ado, the five best sketches of THE PETE HOLMES SHOW RUN (through November 30th, 2013)!

GAMING IN 2013
Previously on FALLING BACK INTO GAMING… Click Here!
After my assorted gaming past, my glorious return the gaming came in 2013!

I bought a WiiU in February, but even the newest Nintendo system couldn’t stir the gamer in me. It never helps that Nintendo rarely releases an exclusive A-List at system launch.
NINTENDO LAND, which came with the system, was good for a laugh due to new ways to play mini-games with the “WiiU Gamepad Controller” (official name according to Nintendo). It was a lot like RAYMAN: RAVING RABBITS; it’s fun to play with a new innovative controller, but mini-games get old fast.
LEGEND OF ZELDA: THE WIND WAKER HD did just come out a month or two ago, and is a fantastic game! It just isn’t… new. I mentioned it in my last post… it is a part of my gaming history.
Preface for the following list: I can only judge the games I’ve played, and, returning to gaming, the five below are about half of all the games I have experienced this year. There were others, like THE LAST OF US, which were critically acclaimed, but did not hold my attention the way these five games did.
Tying it all back to Nintendo, I assume SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD would be worthy of the list, as would THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS for 3DS. I just won’t get those until Christmas at the earliest because I’m poor as fuck!
If I waited, then how will you know which games are the best gift for the gamer in your life?
The Five Best Games of 2013!
Or, at least, the 5 that brought me back into the world of gaming. In order of release, not overall quality. Continue reading “The 5 Best Games of 2013: Falling Back Into Gaming, 2nd Act”
Another great X-MEN trailer!
(And this time it isn’t Pete Holmes firing an ‘Ex-Men’.)

Unfortunately, trailers for all the X-MEN movies have looked amazballs, but only X-MEN: FIRST CLASS has delivered. Which is odd, because Wolverine is the best of the X-Men, and he is literally in FIRST CLASS for a single line.
THE WOLVERINE was okay, but it still doesn’t hold a candle to FIRST CLASS.
Perhaps, combining the best X-Men cast, that of FIRST CLASS, with some extreme Wolverine action will be the perfect cocktail.

Before I say anything else, I must put forth this fact! The Russo brothers (Anthony and Joe) who I most love for directing countless episodes of my FAVORITE PIECE OF MEDIA EVER, ARRESTED fucking DEVELOPMENT have directed this film! (I also love the pair for directing some great eps of COMMUNITY.) Now…
Captain America: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Seems like it could have been an alternate title for the film, considering the trailer has very little of the Winter Soldier in it.
I’m just pleased as punch that we have a trailer for my favorite Avenger, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans)… aka Captain America’s second lone outing. And it is fucking sweet! Less superhero antics, more thriller/spy type action… with 2 superbeings and an agent with custom made wings…

As stated previously, Captain America’s not that alone with Agent Romanov (Scarlett Johansson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce, all along for the ride. A big S.H.I.E.L.D. fiesta.

IMDB also lists Emily VanCamp as Peggy Carter descendent and longtime comic ally to Steve Rogers, ‘Agent 13.’
Even Peggy (Hayley Atwell) and young Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) are listed, leading the the awesome conclusion there will be at least a few flashbacks to Captain America’s WWII days.
The world has changed, and Steve Rogers is still getting used to it (though he does have his updated suit of stars). Rather than punishing evil after it happens, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury are all about preventing terrorism. Is Rogers too idealistic? Because Nick Fury says that S.H.I.E.L.D. sees the world as it is, not as they want it to be.
“This isn’t freedom, this is fear.” – Steve Rogers

The superhero shorts from Pete Holmes just don’t stop!
With The Pete Holmes Show premiering next Monday, at midnight, on TBS, another sketch from the show has hit the net, landing at Entertainment Weekly.
After firing Wolverine because a character with a metal spine is useless against arch-nemesis Magneto, it’s time for Professor Xavier to go down the X-Men roster to fire the next useless mutant.
Check out the video after the jump!

A Chinese man named Chan can create fire from nothing, in the palm of his hand.
(Like Doc Ock says in SPIDER-MAN 2, “The power of the sun, in the palm of my hand!”)
Chan is approached by a mysterious woman in a flower dress. She convinces him to take on a superhero-esque name and show off his powers. After all, as she says, no one knows the name Steve Rogers, but everyone recognizes Captain America.
So, Scorch is born. (The girl in the flower dress’s idea).
Apparently becoming a superhero or supervillain is an important lesson in branding.
Before Chan can use his powers to bed the seductive girl in the flower dress, he is captured by men in fireproof suits that answer to the mysterious woman. Continue reading “AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. “Girl In The Flower Dress” – Flame On!”

It’s here!
It’s HERE!
IT
IS

The new poster for CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER is here… and it is S.H.I.E.L.D. heavy.
The good Capt. is in a S.H.I.E.L.D. aircraft, overlooking the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier… and Washington D.C.
Early word on the movie is that it is more of a “thriller” than your typical superhero film, just as CAPTAIN AMERICA: FIRST AVENGER was more of a war movie.
Did I mention Captain America is my favorite Avenger? Well, he is. He most definitely is.
We’ll know even more when the first Teaser Trailer hits the web tomorrow (Thursday, October 24th).
Check out the full poster after the jump!

Another week, another MARVELous (sorry for the pun…) episode of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

In ‘Eye Spy,’ Coulson and the gang track down one of his old proteges, Agent Mindy, long thought dead, more recently appearing as a turncoat with superpowers. Not only is she a skeleton from Coulson’s past, but she can see skeletons with her new gift of X-Ray vision.
Rather than going into detail surrounding the synopsis, in this ‘issue’ I simply want to cover the broad strokes/themes of the season and how they play out in this ‘Eye Spy.’
You are welcome to watch the episode for yourself, for free, on Hulu, if you have not seen it already.
WHO IS THE ENEMY?
Tough question, no answers. Last week, the culprit behind everything appeared to be Ian Quinn’s company and Dr. Franklin Hall (who we are still waiting to reappear as Graviton).
In the Pilot (first) episode, we had a shady organization attaching a Extremis style centipede on human subjects to create superhumans.
In the second episode, ‘0-8-4,’ it seemed the villain was simply Coulson’s old Peruvian contact whose government commissioned a weapon from Hydra decades ago.

Pete Holmes.
Again, I come to you, bringing tidings of Pete Holmes, who will soon have his own show, THE PETE HOLMES SHOW, premiering on Monday, October 28th, on TBS (a channel that really doesn’t know funny at all… yet).
I am not paid to promote Pete Holmes (any accusations would be ridiculous for a website with such low readership); I am just a giant fan, both of his BADMAN videos and his excellent Podcast that puts Marc Maron’s WTF to shame, YOU MADE IT WEIRD WITH PETE HOLMES. His E*Trade baby ain’t too terrible either.
While ramping up for the impending premiere of his show, Pete Holmes has put up two hilarious sketches, both from the comic universe; taking pot shots at Marvel and DC.
First, Pete Holmes returns as Batman in his ‘Teaser’ for BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN.
A video I wished to embed here, but doesn’t seem to work… in any browser. So CLICK HERE TO SEE IT!
Not his best appearance as Batman (see GOOD WILL HUNTING with Batfleck), but still, not bad. I really do owe my own impression of Christian Bale’s Batman to the one, the only, Pete Holmes!
His greater sketch of late, has to do with a metal Marvel hero with a love of the expression, ‘Bub.’

Tony Stark isn’t the only one in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) who creates his own demons. In the third episode of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Phil Coulson ends up accidentally creating his own super-villain.
But just like the narrative of IRON MAN 3, let’s track this from the beginning…
If the “Pilot” was an NCIS knock-off and “0-8-4” was a mini-Marvel action movie, then “The Asset” is basically Marvel’s version of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE.

Starting with the most impressive special effects I’ve seen on a network show (surely part of the budget is borrowed from the AVENGERS INITIATIVE: PHASE TWO films), this globe spanning episode involves infiltrating an incredibly secure compound and ends with a device that would make SPIDER-MAN 2’s Doc Ock jealous.
Continue reading “AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. “The Asset” – Coulson Creates His Own Demons”
The second episode of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. is a real Marvel!
While S.H.I.E.L.D.’s pilot left the question, whether or not the show would be original or an NCIS -type-procedural with a coat of Stan Lee paint, the 2nd episode proves this show is the real deal; a deal even Samuel L. Jackson can’t refuse.
This episode, Marvel movie fans get the treat of transitioning from A.I.M.’s Extremis in episode 1, a Hydra’s Tesseract weapon of mass destruction.
Responding to a ‘0-8-4,’ Agent Phil Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) elite unit of S.H.I.E.L.D operatives and Skye (Chloe Bennet), the former(?) member of ‘The Rising Tide,’ (and acting consultant, just like one Tony Stark), end up in Peru. What is a 0-8-4, you may ask? (As Skye did…).
Well, let’s just say the last 0-8-4 Agent Phil Coulson responded to was an unmovable hammer in New Mexico…

The “Marvel Movie Universe” has finally come to a television near you (or Hulu) for the 2nd chapter in “The Avengers Initiate Phase Two.”
MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. continues every geek’s wet-dream by weaving the same universe, not just across multiple big-screen superhero franchises, but now in a weekly TV format, shedding more light on S.H.I.E.L.D and Agent Coulson, the essential, behind the scenes backbone of the Avengers. Though the show still lost in the ratings to what continues to be TV’s most popular show, NCIS, it was the third best premiere of a drama… ever… with 12.1 million viewers.

Several days ago, on Monday September 16th, I waited in line twice to pick up my pre-ordered copy of GRAND THEFT AUTO V from Gamestop. First, I had to stand in line to get my group number at 6pm. Then, I had to wait in line from 11:00pm to the 12:01am Tuesday release date of the game.
I’m not complaining, bitching, or moaning; I could have (and should have) just picked up the game Tuesday morning and avoided the crowds. After all, I did preorder the game months ago; there would be a copy there waiting for me in the morning.
Though I wish to avoid all lines these days; I’ve waited in my fair share that require arrival hours in advance, whether I am waiting for a hot game system or the latest blockbuster. Each and every time I have found myself in such a line, I come across the same five geek archetypes. Without fail. Continue reading “‘Waiting for GTA V’ or ‘Types of Line Geeks’”
There are many types of geeks. To be a geek is to be obsessed… with anything. You don’t have to be big into ‘geek culture’ like comics, video games, STAR TREK films, yada, yada, yada.

This obsession… or extreme passion, fuels the geek. Are you obsessed over sports? Do you know baseball or football stats? You’re a sports geek, not a jock (unless you also play the sport on the reg). You are an even bigger geek if you participate in a fantasy leaf. Fantasy? That’s practically ‘Dungeons and Dragons,’ geek.
Most people have an idea in their head, a strong passion for something; maybe multiple things. Continue reading “YOU Are (most likely) a Geek!”
