Finally, in the 2nd, far less graphic trailer for Alien: Covenant, the connection to Prometheus is made clear.
Though Ridley Scott returned to the Alien franchise in 2012, with the “Not an Alien Prequel” that was clearly a strange Alien Prequel, Prometheus, things are only now beginning to look a look a lot like 1979’s Alien! In this direct sequel to Prometheus, “Alien” triumphantly returns to the title, in time for a new series of films leading us into the original classic. The following trailer takes the elements and threads left from Prometheus and builds it into a horror film finally worthy to follow what I consider the scariest film of all time… Alien.
We got eggs and facehuggers! Creepy hallways and Xenomorphs! New to the equation are couples, at first a curiosity in the Prologue released last week, now established as being a necessity for a crew set on colonizing a new world. These more intense relationships will surely make the ability to let go and the pain of loss that follows all the worse. On this new world, the crew of the Covenant find plant-life from Earth… but no other living beings… animal or otherwise. What they do find is the ship that Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and David’s head (Michael Fassbender) used to escape the deadly planet in Prometheus. And it looks like they brought a few horrors with them. How nice.
This trailer for Alien: Covenant shows me all the iconic imagery and tight corridor chills I want to see… along with a big fucking Alien! (For more… check out all these SCREENGRABS!)
Also… new Poster!
May 19th can’t come soon enough!
On that day, you will here me scream… with joy! (And in terror…)
While these DC titles are all higher profile (it’s Wonder Women, Batman, and The Justice League for Christ’s sake), Marvel Studios has turned one of their lesser known comics into another unique genre crossover that explores a new corner of the MCU (magic!) with a fresh visual unlike anything we’ve seen. Lofty statements, I know, but just check out the trailer and try not to let your brain melt.
The visuals are stunning, like Inception on Mushrooms (seriously, this movie is probably a druggie’s wet dream). To remember just the insane worlds and architecture literally folding in on each other is a mistake; we also see gorgeous portals and an amazing realization of what using magic looks like in the MCU. Though you could argue Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) uses magic, nothing she’s done in Avengers: Age of Ultron or Captain America: Civil War looks as well executed as the magic we see Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) perform in battle.
Like with Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, Marvel is showing us something they haven’t done yet. Something less conventional and more of a genre crossing movie that surprises us again after a more conventional film like Civil War.“You [DC] show them something, we’ll show you something better,” sayth Marvel! And it was great.
Just like Marvel Studios’ Netflix Presentation, DC Entertainment didn’t just bring a trailer for their next movie, Suicide Squad, to San Diego Comic Con, they also brought a teaser and poster for their movie after that, Wonder Woman… AND even a trailer and official image for their own super team team up film, Justice League! The Justice League trailer, unlike Netflix’s The Defenders Series “teaser,” actually has new footage… a lot of it!
There’s defiantly one theme I’ve noticed with all the trailers; each movie going forward is beginning to feel a lot more like Marvel than previous DCEU films, Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.Let’s build up to the most exciting trailer shall we? (Justice League, duh!). So we’ll start with Suicide Squad, a movie for which we have many trailers already, though the new one still offers quite a bit of new footage. While not going as far as the Batman V Superman trailer that spoiled Doomsday, the villain is revealed more than before in this latest trailer, and there are a lot of new scenes that will wet your appetite. If you are already at footage overload, don’t feel too bad about skipping the San Diego Comic Con 2016 Suicide Squad trailer. The film may feel fresher on August 5th without it.
New action, extended dialog scenes among the Squad with an emphasis on Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) as well, and more Joker (Jared Leto) and Batman (Ben Affleck). Still a winning combination, though the music is the least inspired of the many trailers.
Up next we have the Poster AND first Teaser Trailer for 2017’s Wonder Woman! That’s the poster, obviously. Now here comes the trailer:
Wonder Woman looks like an interesting mix of Thor, a Jane Austin novel, Captain America: The First Avenger, and a Zack Snyder movie, even though it is being directed by Patty Jenkins. The Amazon scenes and costumes remind me of Thor‘s Asgard. The costumes and non-action scenes remind me of romance films based on Victorian era novels. The World War I elements are painfully First Avenger-esque, especially the emphasis on Wonder Woman’s shield. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) uses her shield to dispatch a German Solider just like Cap, in a scene involving extreme slow motion action which gives it that Zack Snyder feel, as well as the muted colors in the overall tone of it’s look.
It’s slightly baffling why DC would use their chance to introduce Wonder Woman to make a film that looks so close to Captain America: The First Avenger; both being a World War period piece with a superhuman brandishing a round Shield.Wonder Woman does also get her trademark Lasso, but there’s no invisible jet! (Thank god for that). Chris Pine as Steve Trevor does bring more humor than in either BvS or the Suicide Squad trailer, especially compared to the continued stoic take on Wonder Woman herself. This lightness really does gives the trailer more of a Marvel feel than what DC has given us thus far. Which brings us to the most Marvel-y trailer of all, the 1st teaser for Justice League! The trailer focuses on Batman recruiting the Justice League as Bruce Wayne, always out of the suit, which is a very interesting choice. In fact, because Justice League is still being shot, we’re treated almost entirely to recruitment scenes without costumes or special effects, but it still looks great, despite being handled by Zack Snyder who ruined Batman V Superman.
Though you may recognize them all, the heroes featured above are Flash/Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), Superman/Clark Kent (Henry Cavill), Cyborg/ Victor Stone (Ray Fisher), Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, Batman/Bruce Wayne, and Aquaman/Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa). All appear in the trailer, except Superman, who most be “dead” during recruitment but will obviously return based on the above photo… and the fact that you can’t have the Justice League without Superman (but you can do it without Green Lantern, who has been a member forever)!
Justice League looks surprisingly good thus far, with even more humor than Wonder Woman or Suicide Squad, most of it coming from the Dark Knight himself, traditionally the least jokey character in comics (his nemesis makes up for his lack of humor). I like how the teaser plays with the difficulty of recruiting some, like Aquaman, while others like Barry Allen jump at the chance to join up because he needs friends… and is blown away he is actually meeting Batman! Again, it feels a lot like The Avengers, as it should, with great humor and hints at team dynamics that will likely include a little bit of friction/in-fighting at the beginning.
San Diego Comic Con 2016 is the gift that keeps on giving, worrying me a little with Wonder Woman, but restoring good will towards Justice League.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s a good time to be a Geek!
Wow, it took them (Paramount) long enough, but we finally have our 2nd trailer AND the 1st poster for Star Trek Beyond!
Seeing as how the movie is only 2 months away, this is cutting it close for a full theatrical trailer, especially considering the teaser came out in time for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, over 5 months ago! Often, a lack of footage and poster this late in the game can spell trouble, so I’ve experienced some concern for the continuation of the Star Trek franchise these past months. The Teaser Trailer didn’t help; going with The Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage”instead of the classic orchestral score in every other recent Trek film, seemingly confirming Paramount wanted less of a Star Trek movie and something closer to Guardians of the Galaxy.Thankfully, the 2nd trailer for Star Trek Beyond has put my worries to rest. While I enjoyed Star Trek Into Darkness quite a bit, the new footage for Beyond has more character moments in it than that entire film (I’m sure Spock would see this as an exaggeration, not logic, but there you go)!
Go ahead and watch that trailer now!
I love the ties to the 1st film, bringing full circle Kirk’s father’s sacrifice and what it means for Jim to escape his father’s shadow and become his own man; the Jim Kirk who will go down in Star-Date Recordings as one of the greatest Starfleet Captains the Federation has ever had. The new footage may include a motorcycle (which was present before), but this feels no less like Trek than J.J. Abrams’ two films, though this time Fast and Furious director Justin Lin is at the helm. All our favorite characters are back, Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Bones (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Chekov (Anton Yelchin), and Sulu (John Cho) along with the brand new kick-ass Alien Jaylah (Sofia Boutella) and, of course, Idris Elba as the big baddie, Krall. Though Idris Elba may be completely covered in make-up/mask, it makes him no less intense, following in a line of what I consider to be 2 great villains, Nero (Eric Bana) and Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch).
The action’s there, the aforementioned character moments look great, and this is most definitely a Star Trek movie, not a Guardians wanna-be!
Star Trek Beyond hits the States on July 22nd, 2016! Check out the poster below and salivate.
The trailer is below, delivering all the goods in a way that feels very akin to Anchorman 2, but will hopefully deliver vastly different results (i.e. it may be great!).
All the right ingredients are there, from the stupid artistry that defines Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) with kooky additions of Kristen Wiig and Penelope Cruz.
And let us never forget Will Ferell, back as the villainous, latte throwing Mugatu. This movie looks more fun than a freak, gasoline fight accident!
Next, how could Breaking Geek not share the Captain America: Civil War trailer and posters?!? We may have been away with technical difficulties for a few weeks, but the trailer must appear on this site! It’s been tracking at nearly double the views the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron had in the same time.
Check out the trailer 1st and stick around for commentary as well as the three official posters!
How awesome is that? The exact tone and feel of Captain America: Winter Soldier from the same writers and directors, with an Avengers sized spectacle. That fight scene at the end…. bananas! And the heart…. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) telling Tony Stark that he has to side with Bucky (Sebastian Stan) because they’re friends, only to have Stark reply “So were we.”
Here are the posters I promised….
Both these films hit in 2016 along with other Geek Fantasies such as Deadpool, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Star Trek Beyond, Doctor Strange, and yet another Star Wars film!
It’s here! The final poster for J.J. Abram’s trip to a galaxy far, far away has hit the internet by storm! The Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster even includes the 1st image of some fan favorites from the classic trilogy!
Waste no time and take a gander. Then we’ll talk about what you see!First off, who’s missing?
Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) of course! Luke is now the classic character most shrouded in mystery as the poster does offer our first look at Carrie Fisher as Leia (Solo?)! Why won’t they show us anymore than Luke’s metal “Winter Soldier” arm?
Front and center are the three new, younger cast members that will likely drive the movie forward (a character’s size on a poster can be very telling of their importance…), Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as the lightsaber weilding/possible Stormtrooper Finn, and the Darth Vader inspired Kylo Ren played by Adam Driver.
Below that, the whole gang’s here from classic droids C-3PO & R2-D2 to the brand new rolly polly B-88. Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Leia, and Chewbacca share a small space next to the droids, as does Oscar Isaac’s hot-shot X-Wing Pilot Poe Dameron. There’s even a new, mysterious alien hanging with the old crew; an alien whose importance was never hinted at in any of the promotional material… including the toys!
You’ve got your baddies on the very bottom; a legion of Stormtroopers led by Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie). No sign of Domhnall Gleeson who we’ve already seen as General Hux in promotional images, and Andy Serkis’ CGI “New Order” (formally “The Empire”) Supreme Leader Snoke remains just as mysterious as Luke Skywalker’s face.
It’s hard to miss the classic X-Wings. Tie-Fighters, and, of course, the Millennium Falcon, but what is more interesting is the Death Star looking ship in the top right corner behind Finn. That isn’t a starship, or a small moon, it’s an Arctic planet, turned into the “Starkiller” base/weapon capable of wiping out a star system. (Fun fact: in early scripts Luke Skywalker was Luke Starkiller…)
Death Star 5.0!
It needs to be mention, though the poster does recall Star Wars posters past, it is not drawn by the incomparable Drew Struzan.
With a trailer dropping tomorrow on ESPN during Monday Night Football, things are about to get really Star Warsy up in here!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits US screens on December 18th!
On the eve of what was supposed to be the IMAX premiere of the trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (though it actually hit the web on Friday. Watch it now!), director Zack Snyder has released two really cool looking posters for the film, likely a prize that will be handed out at these IMAX screenings to make sure people will come and line-up even though they can watch the trailer at home.
Without further ado, here they are. And they are glorious.
I really dig this style. The Batman symbol ripped from Superman’s face really brings a Dark Knight vibe to the marketing; reminiscent of posters of Batman’s past.
So, show up Monday at one of those IMAX screenings of the trailer… and hopefully you’ll go home with something…
On Friday, director Colin Trevorrow released the first of 3 new posters for his upcoming summer blockbuster Jurassic World.
Here’s that 1st one from my earlier post as a refresher:
Now, take a look at Saturday’s poster.
These two posters certainly seem to have a common theme: there is literally a plate of glass (“security”) keeping visitors and employees, like Bryce Dallas Howard’s Dr. Claire Dearing, away from monsters that could devour a human in a single bite. The Indominus Rex snout in the first poster, and the majestic/terrifying Mosasaurus eating a shark in the other.
But don’t fear! Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and his Pride of Velociraptors are here!
A new trailer for Jurassic World premieres Monday online. Hopefully we get a bunch of exciting new images, without a clear shot spoiling the look of poor, misunderstood, Indominus Rex.
Everyone dismissed 2015’s reboot of Fantastic Four (or FANT4STIC) before we saw any footage. The first trailer changed that, giving us a much darker film than the original two films (starring Chris Evans as the Human Torch before his turn as Captain America). In fact, the trailer was chilling and dark in all the right ways.
Trailer #2 continues to intrigues me; the accident still looks horrific, as does the idea that Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, Sue & Johnny Storm become lab rats after their accident. And then… we get a look at Doom! And really great shots of The Thing in action.
Watch it now!
Still dark and foreboding, at least the team decides their powers should be used to help people, making them heroes in this trailer, not just freaks after a trip to another dimension goes horribly wrong.
Check out these shots of the team using their powers!
And……. here’s Dr. Doom!
Finally, the 3rd and likely final poster for the film.
Fantastic Four rounds out summer with its release this August.
Batman V Superman: Justice Begins Isn’t the only movie getting a new trailer this Monday.
The director of Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow, has shared a new poster for said film, the 1st of what he promises will be three posters released throughout the day!
Not only that, but Jurassic World is getting a long overdue, 2nd Theatrical Trailer for the film on Monday! (We’ve had two TV Spot, but only one Trailer.)
Check out the 1st poster, with Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, Dr. Claire Dearing, facing the monstrous mouth of our new friend and the latest attraction at Jurassic World: Indominus Rex!
Wow, that Dino’s big!
Keep your eyes out for the next two trailers which I will hopefully post this afternoon!
And expect more and more gnarly trailers as the Summer Movie Season kicks off with Avengers: Age of Ultron, two weeks from today!
The new hero appears on the new Entertainment Weekly cover and also now has his very own character poster!
First, here is EW‘s latest cover with Vision sharing the stage with Black Widow and the Hulk.
There he is! There is Paul Bettany, former JARVIS, currently Vision!
For those not yet in the know, Ultron, artificial intelligence with real jealousy and daddy issues, creates a robot known as Vision to prove he too can create “life.” Of course, in the MCU version, Ultron creates Vision using Stark’s digital pal JARVIS, giving Paul Bettany the chance to escape the recording studio and join his Avenger pals on the big screen… in insane yet appropriate makeup.
Seriously though, Ultron looks like a robot. Silver and such: the whole deal. Yet he creates a very colorful more human robot? Marvel be crazy! And I love it.
Here’s the official Avengers: Age of Ultron character poster for Vision.
It’s been months since the original teaser trailer, so Warner Bros. has a new poster for us, as well as three quick 15 second spots, all leading up to tomorrow’s release of a full trailer for the film.
First, the poster.
Now, those quick teasers I promised.
‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ hits theaters on May 15th, leaving two weeks for the Avengers to shine.
After being pulled from December back to July 31st to avoid clashing against ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ ‘Mission: Impossible 5’ has been without a title, poster, trailer, and plot synopsis for far too long. (Ethan Hunts saves the world… but how and from whom?)
Now we have all four.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the title and 1st poster for Christopher McQuarrie’s ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,’ the follow up to Brad Bird’s ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ (when they smartened up and dropped the number titling system in favor of a subtitle).
Like the poster for ‘Ghost Protocol,’ ‘Rogue Nation’s poster highlights the “Impossible” stunt from the film; this time Tom Cruise hangs onto an airplane as it takes off and continues to hang at 6,000 feet (or whatever)!
Benji has quite the disguise… but still no Mask… yet.
This minute long teaser trailer certainly excites as I have always been a ‘Mission: Impossible’ fan (M:I:2 doesn’t exist). We got motorcycle action! Benji (Simon Pegg) in the field! Quick shots of Agent Brandt (Jeremy Renner) and Luthor (Ving Rhames), back from earlier installments! More action! Alec Baldwin as the CIA director hunting down… well… Ethan Hunt (with the amount of times Tom Cruise is on the run in these films, that last name has got to be a pun… at this point). The enemy revealed: the Rogue Nation Syndicate – “an anti-IMF. And “Impossible” stunts!
Watch the trailer now and get the synopsis after!
After watching the trailer for ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,’ the official synopsis from Paramount is quite plain and simple:
Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.
Evidence of “The Syndicate. “
“The Syndicate” sure does sound a lot like S.P.E.C.T.R.E., 007’s nemesis agency (as well as the title of the next Bond film): a shadow organization penetrating all areas of worldwide governments in order to control the world. If “The Syndicate” really is an “Anti-IMF,” than that sounds exactly like S.P.E.C.T.R.E. being the anti-MI6.
Of course, this meaty one-minute trailer is just a teaser for the real trailer dropping TOMORROW! The 23rd!
So now that we have a title, poster, teaser trailer, and synopsis for ‘Rogue Nation!’ And we will be getting yet another, this time full-length, trailer for Ethan Hunt’s latest adventure… in this, 2015, the year of the spy genre.
Nick and Andrew play the 2nd and final round of the Oscars Game: 2015!
Arguments over the Street Sharks “Jawsome!” legitimacy lead to Nick and Andrew’s ‘Elektra’ lament. They watched the ‘Daredevil’ spin-off as part of their “POS Film Series” and you get to hear about it… without having to watch the not-so-Jawsome movie yourself! Talk ends with ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ as it always does, where our heroes disagree about the appeal of the poster for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ 2nd big-screen adventure.
Now with “The Stan Lee Theory!”
Chris Pine cries for no man! Except a single tear for Leonard Nimoy! (Okay, he’s crying at the Oscars…)
Tune in every Friday for a new ‘Breaking Geek’ podcast!
Though the painted poster-style of artists like the incomparable Drew Struzan may be dead, the final poster for ‘Age of Ultron’ is way classier and less of a Photoshop mess than the final poster for the 1st film.
Or the Photoshop messes of overcrowded ‘Iron Man 3,’ ‘Thor: The Dark World,’ and ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ posters. (The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ poster was actually pretty sweet…)
This poster, though also a Photoshopped hodgepodge, has way more style and is much more pleasing to the eye than Marvel Studios’ previous attempts at a good “final” poster for a film.
Here it is.
The official poster for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’
There you go. Notice the curved flow of the images, making the poster more pleasing to the eye, as art, than any of the previous posters from Marvel Studios.
Plus, we get Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, AND our best official look at The Vision yet! No “Ultron Prime,” though. Just the Ultron Drones.
And my favorite Avenger, Captain America, is finally front and center where he belongs! Team leader (now with high franchise potential)! Capt.’s not wedged behind Iron Man and Thor like last time!
On the (nearly) eve of the Superbowl, prior to the promise of a brand new trailer for ‘Jurassic World,’ the good folks at Universal have given us an official peak at the already infamous “Indominus Rex.”
(There are a bunch of more spoilery images of the beast confirmed correct if you wish to find them online. I’m just covering the official Universal Studios less spoilerly review of the creature.)
Nothing super-spoilery like a full image of the beast, but we have a sneak peak at the creature’s Godzilla type snout. We also have a “guide” to the dinosaur, showing us his “logo” with an outline of the beast, as well as a fake press-release explaining Jurassic World’s newest attraction.
Here’s the very vague face of Indominus Rex.
The official look at Indominus Rex. See, barely a real look. No spoilers!
Now, for a clearer look at the creature, without actually revealing the full beast itself, comes a graphic officially released by “the park.”It does live up to the top ad’s promise of “More Teeth.” But is it bigger and louder?
Notice the emphasis on the Indominus Rex’s clawed hand. It seems to be the creature’s most dangerous feature, besides the terrifying teeth above. Obviously, the arms are much more effective than a T-Rex, while keeping the overall shape of the classic movie-monster from the first two ‘Jurassic Park’ films.
AND GREAT NEWS! It’s not a dino/human hybrid from earlier drafts of the script. This was fixed, as promised and to the relief of ‘Jurassic Park’ fans across the interwebs.
Indominus Rex does seem to have a interesting toe as well, but the “official press release from the scientists at Jurassic World” doesn’t include Velociraptor as one of the species spliced into this hybrid as previously rumored (and hoped!).
Even has a T-Rex-esque Face Logo
There are a bunch of other Dinos and jargon I don’t understand, making this piece of viral marketing very effective. In addition to the description of the beast’s genetics we get its max speed and even the number of decibels produced by Indominus Rex’s roar.
“We set out to make Indominus the most fearsome dinosaur ever to be displayed at Jurassic World. The genetic engineers at our Hammond Creation Lab have more than delivered.
At first glance, Indominus most closely resembles a T. Rex. But its distinctive head ornamentation and ultra-tough bony osteoderms can be traced from Theropods known as Abeliosaurs. Indominus’ horns have been placed above the eye orbit through genetic material hybridized from Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops and Gigantosaurus. Fearsome indeed.
Indominus’ roar is estimated to reach 140-160db—the same as a 747 taking off and landing. And it can reach speeds of 30 mph…while confined to its enclosure. Come experience Indominus Rex for yourself beginning this summer. If you dare.”
So it is louder. Much louder!
Run Chris Pratt! Run! You can’t make it up to 30 miles per hour like Indominus Rex! (But a jeep could out run it…)
Prepare to see a bunch of tourists eaten by Indominus Rex on June 12th.
Of all the Blockbusters this year, the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot has long been deemed a disaster, from other geeky blog sites not liking the casting choices, to an apparent temper-tantrum by director Josh Trank, and finally a complete lack of photos or footage…
Until today.
Why in the world is Fox’s calling it ‘FANT4STIC?’ Did they learn nothing from ‘TAK3N?’Our best look at The Thing.
Now we have a teaser-trailer and a poster; our first look at the film what-so-ever. And, though we have yet to see anything fantastic, the trailer’s images and tone are very interesting; very akin to the tone of Fox’s recent X-Men adventures ‘First Class’ and ‘Days of Future Past.’
Maybe a little creepier.
Ok, Definitely creepier!
It may not be ‘The Dark Knight,’ but this version of ‘Fantastic Four’ looks far darker than the overally-kid-friendly originals directed by Tim Story.
I’m now cautiously optimistic the film may be good; I do like the almost terrifying images of the crew’s transformation including Miles Teller painfully stretching for the first time as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic to The Thing (Jamie Bell) breaking out of a mass of rocks.
This apparent similarity in tone between Fox’s ‘Fantastic Four’ and their ‘X-Men’ franchise is no mistake, Fox plans on crossing their two Marvel properties into a mini-Fox Cinematic Universe. There’s also a sequel in the works already…
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Ok. So now the logo is a square? Because there are four sides? To distance new franchise from old?
‘The Fantastic Four’ (or ‘The FANT4STIC’) gets a much needed reboot on August 8th!
Chris Evans as The Human Torch
P.S. Let us not forget the original ‘Fantastic Four’s legacy: Chris Evans, who graduated from Johnny Storm/The Human Torch to Steve Rogers/Captain America.
I consider ‘Breaking Bad’ the best American drama ever to grace my television screen.
Where do you think I got the name for my website? (I proved my point, thank you very much.)
‘Better Call Saul’ follows Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk), the infamous lawyer who set events in motion by hooking up Walt (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul) with Gus Fring. He of course remained their lawyer til the end of the series, getting drawn farther into the criminal underworld than Saul could handle.
‘Better Call Saul’ follows a young, innocent, Jimmy, before he has found his alter-ego-doucehbag-TV-lawyer identity of Saul Goodman.
Check out the amazing trailers first (the 2nd is the better of the two), but then we have a clip with Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) and young Jimmy meeting each other for the first time.
Not a bad start. Now watch the more recent, better trailer with completely alternate footage.
Now, without further ado, the “meet cute” scene in the budding relationship between lawyer-wanna-be Jimmy “Not-Yet-Saul” and the most dangerous grandpa in the world, Mike Ehrmantraut.
You gone and fucked with the wrong old-geezer, Saul. Bad move.
No, I don’t mean the 2003 film ‘Daredevil’ starring Ben Batfleck as the title hero. 2015’s ‘Daredevil’ is a brand new show, officially part of the the Marvel Cinematic Universe, by Marvel Studios. Fox made the original film but let the rights slip back to Disney/Marvel, allowing the pros that brought us ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ to create and execute the first of five planned Netflix shows.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hasn’t had much luck on TV, especially when you compare it to DC’s successful ‘Arrow,’ ‘Flash,’ and ‘Gotham;’ all shows that look like they will be around for a few seasons. My personal favorite, ‘Constantine’ is the most enjoyable, as though it can get dark as hell, the tone is closer to that of a Marvel movie than the aforementioned darker DC shows or the new DC Cinematic Universe (the DCCU) kicked off by Zack Synder’s overly dark ‘Man of Steel.’
Meanwhile, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ clings to life and is a complete disappointment when compared to the rest of the MCU, or even Fox and Sony Marvel films like ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘X-Men.’
‘Agent Carter’ may be great (the premise sure is), but I have yet to watch it (I think I’ll hop on Hulu+ following this post) and haven’t seen any TV ratings yet.
Though we have yet to see any real footage from Netflix’s’Daredevil,’ one would expect the gutsy “online network” that brought us ‘House of Cards’ to deliver a more cinematic product with a much higher budget than ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ The former should also feel less constrained by network television standards than the latter.
And ‘Daredevil’ is just the beginning of a run of MCU Netflix programming that could eclipse DC’s thus far successful television efforts.
Here’s the poster.
Following the 13 episode ‘Daredevil’ series starring Charlie Cox as Daredevil/Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpen, Marvel and Netflix will release ‘AKA Jessica Jones’ starring ‘Breaking Bad’s Krysten Ritter as the title character and Mike Colter as Luke Cage. Seeing as how the two are an item in the comics, Mike Colter will play Luke Cage in ‘Aka Jessica Jones’ before he gets his own show, ‘Luke Cage,’ next. Following that we get ‘Iron Fist’ which has yet to be cast, followed by an ‘Avengers’-esque series called ‘The Defenders’ that brings all four characters together for an ensemble superhero team.
Basically, Marvel has focused their TV efforts on an MCU of Netflix’s own; one that could lead to appearances of the characters on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ which desperately needs more superheroes and even a possible team-up in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ Part 1 or 2.
Thus far, we have only seen this Frank Miller look of the costume, not the red horned costume used in 2003’s ‘Darvedevil’ film.
This does raise the question, where and if these shows exist within ‘Phase 2’ or ‘Phase 3.’ Being a part of the MCU means they have to fall somewhere. I would guess that somewhere is ‘Phase 3’ as we won’t see Daredevil on the big screen helping with the sadistic Ultron. But IT DOES come out before ‘Age of Ultron’ and ‘Ant-Man,’ the latter ending ‘Phase 2.’ Maybe some plot points do feed into either film and are a part of Phase 2?
We’ll know more on April 10th when Netflix drops all 13 episodes of Marvel Studios’ ‘Daredevil;’ the next frontier of superhero shows.
Our first look at Marvel Studios’ ‘Ant-Man’ came in the form of an ant-sized trailer. Literally.
Did you catch any of that? Well here is the “Human-Size” version.
Okay, so it’s a teaser for a teaser trailer. The full trailer comes out tonight during Marvel’s new show ‘Agent Carter’, with another ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ trailer following later this week on Disney owned ESPN.
While we wait, we have our first look at Paul Rudd in his Ant-Man getup, courtesy of ‘Entertainment Weekly.’ Though we saw his feet running in his fancy new boots in the teaser for a teaser, this is our first real look at the entire suit.
Paul Rudd IS Ant-Man
It looks MARVELous (I will not apologize for the pun). Another perfect translation from lesser-known comic suit to fully realized big-screen-ready costume. Can Marvel Studios turn ‘Ant-Man’ into the next ‘Guardians of the Galaxy?’
Probably not, but their Ant-sized marketing thus far has been clever and buzz worthy.
Speaking of which, check out the first poster below. Again, look for something very tiny.
The First Poster for ‘Ant-Man’
The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
‘Ant-Man’ follows May’s release of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ with some Paul Rudd action on July 17th. The most interesting fact about the movie thus far, is that it ends ‘Phase 2’ of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. ‘Phase 1’ was ended by the first ‘Avengers’ in 2012 and it was assumed ‘Age of Ultron’ would bring a conclusion to Marvel Studios’ ‘Phase 2.’ Apparently ‘Ant-Man’ has something to add before we enter ‘Phase 3’ in 2016, starting with ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and ending in 2019 with ‘Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2.’
Also fantastic… like the other great Marvel films before it, ‘Ant-Man’ has a unique genre not yet explored by the MCU. ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ was a thriller, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was a space opera, and now ‘Ant-Man’ is a heist film. And 2016’s ‘Dr. Strange’ starring Benedict Cumberbatch promises something completely different.
Even with only a teaser for a teaser trailer and a nearly blank poster,’Ant-Man’ joins the list of most anticipated films in this year of our Lord, Stan Lee, 2015.
