Michael Bay Forgives Megan Fox By Letting Her Play With Teenagers (The Mutant Turtle Kind)

There is now a trailer for Michael Bay produced (not directed, thank god… may God have mercy on Marky Mark’s soul…) latest live action version of the infamous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Gone are the foam masks and stuffy costumes… here be creepy looking CGI turtles.

And I kinda enjoy it.

Leonardo Turtle 2014Somehow the Turtles’ origin (still driven by mutigen) is also linked to April O’Neil’s (Megan Fox) father. Reminds me of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.

Yet there does seem to be hope! Shredder, the greatest preschool-era villain, is Nolan-esque looking more like a terrorist with an army than a ninja with other ninjas. But Shredder is played by William Fichtner who knocked it out of the park as the villain Butch Cavendish in the underrated LONE RANGER.

Will Arnett aka Lego Batman aka G.O.B. Bluth… my favorite actor, plays Vernon Fenwick, who appears to be a reporter of some kind.

Overall it looks like a Michael Bay movie… with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles… and Megan Fox’s cleavage as April O’Neil. Continue reading “Michael Bay Forgives Megan Fox By Letting Her Play With Teenagers (The Mutant Turtle Kind)”

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Trailer 2!

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE past is looking to be one of the better films in the X-MEN franchise. It takes the characters from my favorite X-MEN film, FIRST CLASS, and mashes them together with an apocalyptic future and… The Wolverine! Since FIRST CLASS and THE WOLVERINE are my favorite X-flicks (the rest really don’t do anything for me), it will be fun to have Logan interacting with the likes of young Erik aka Magneto (the incomparable Michael Fassbender).

X-Men Days of Future Past PosterIt is also nice to see Fox has decided to take specific storylines from the comics, like Wolverine’s trip to Japan previously, a trend that is begining to become the norm (CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER anyone?).

It’s still a shame these films are in Fox’s X-Men universe and not part of the official Marvel Studios’  “Marvel Cinematic Universe” (MCU). How will we ever see an epic (and improved) version of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN. The MCU has always felt strange without the mutants the superheroes share the world with in the comics.

But enough about rambling, check out the 2nd, even better than the 1st, trailer for Bryan Singers’ X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.

Walter White (Bryan Cranston) Knows GODZILLA

Like the 1st GODZILLA Trailer?

Well, the second trailer confirms Bryan Cranston (Emmy winner from BREAKING BAD) is the star of the show…

Besides Godzilla!

This ain’t your 90’s GODZILLA. This shit is awesome.

Check out the Cranston-full trailer after the jump! Continue reading “Walter White (Bryan Cranston) Knows GODZILLA”

Chris Pratt Leads the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY in this Fantastic Trailer!

I’ve been excited for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

Marvel’s riskiest movie since THOR… looks absolurlty perfect with the levity the source material needs.

Never heard of Star Lord (Chris Pratt)? Or Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper)? Or Groot, the tree (Vin Diesel).

Meet them all now, courtesty of John C. Reilly’s Nova Corps commander (google Nova Corps; it’s like the Green Lanterns of the Marvel Universe).

Check out the awesome trailer after the jump!

CAPT.(AIN AMERICA) is back! Trailer #2 for WINTER SOLDIER.

Captain America: Winter Soldier Final PosterCAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER keeps looking better and better.

We’ve watched 2 hulks smash on each other, men in iron suits fighting other robot men… or Extremis fire men. 2 super strong forces set on destroying and saving; whether it’s sticking to walls, fight with the power of sand, or shooting lasers out your eyes… we’ve seen all sorts of superhero rumbles.

But this is different. Like the first film in the franchise, CAPTAIN AMERICA is different. The first was a war movie, the 2nd is being described as a ‘thriller.’

It all looks good to me!

Watch the full 2 and a half minute trailer after the jump. Continue reading “CAPT.(AIN AMERICA) is back! Trailer #2 for WINTER SOLDIER.”

2014 Movies to Geek Over

Now that 2013 is behind us, with Khan, Iron Man, and the Long Ranger down for the count, it is time to look forward to the movies to come in 2014!

First, an incredibly spooky trailer for the licensed version of PACIFIC RIM… GODZILLA! (From the very same Legendary Pictures as PACIFIC RIM… and HANGOVER… and DARK KNIGHT).

Is this the Godzilla I deserved but did not get in 1998? It sure looks creepy and realistic as hell. How do we defeat a Kaiju without Jagers? Continue reading “2014 Movies to Geek Over”

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 TRAILER! Goblins, Rhino, and Electro

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.

And Jesus, does AMAZING SPIDER-MAN promise a lot of power.

First, we get the thrill of the drop only experienced thus far in the games.

We see Electro, get to know Harry Osborne, learn that Peter Parker’s dad was protecting the world from Oscorps potential, see Norman in the hospital, see a glider, and if you look close enough, you will see Doc Ock’s arms in Oscorp’s ‘armory.’

Could it be we will see the Sinister Six by AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3?

Will Gwen survive #2?

Check the trailer after the jump!

More Trailer Action! The New ROBOCOP!

Robocop PosterI barely remember the original 1987 ROBOCOP.

I’ve never seen the sequels.

All I remember is Peter Weller as said Robocop, a great actor who has even recently added great roles to his roster as Batman in THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and Admiral Marcus in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.

But a new millennium means a new Alex Murphy aka Robocop, Joel Kinnaman. Kinnaman’s biggest credit that I recognized on IMDB is AMC’s THE KILLING.

Don’t fear! The supporting cast is phenomenal with Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury in AVENGERS), Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon in Nolan’s DARK KNIGHT Trilogy), and Michael Keaton (Batman in Tim Burton’s 1989 BATMAN). The hilarious Jay Baruchel (THIS IS THE END, TROPIC THUNDER), the creepy chameleon of an actor Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach in WATCHMEN), and Abbie Cornish (LIMITLESS) round out the cast.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Trailer

Another great X-MEN trailer!

(And this time it isn’t Pete Holmes firing an ‘Ex-Men’.)

The one time Wolverine was allowed to say 'Fuck.'
The one time Wolverine was allowed to say ‘Fuck.’

Unfortunately, trailers for all the X-MEN movies have looked amazballs, but only X-MEN: FIRST CLASS has delivered. Which is odd, because Wolverine is the best of the X-Men, and he is literally in FIRST CLASS for a single line.

THE WOLVERINE was okay, but it still doesn’t hold a candle to FIRST CLASS.

Perhaps, combining the best X-Men cast, that of FIRST CLASS, with some extreme Wolverine action will be the perfect cocktail.

My favorite of the X-Men actors, Michael Fassbender as Magneto.
My favorite of the X-Men actors, Michael Fassbender as youthful Magneto.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Trailer! Helicarrier Down!

Before I say anything else, I must put forth this fact! The Russo brothers (Anthony and Joe) who I most love for directing countless episodes of my FAVORITE PIECE OF MEDIA EVER, ARRESTED fucking DEVELOPMENT have directed this film! (I also love the pair for directing some great eps of COMMUNITY.) Now…

Captain America: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Good Capt. in his new threads with Nick Fury.

Seems like it could have been an alternate title for the film, considering the trailer has very little of the Winter Soldier in it.

I’m just pleased as punch that we have a trailer for my favorite Avenger, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans)… aka Captain America’s second lone outing. And it is fucking sweet! Less superhero antics, more thriller/spy type action… with 2 superbeings and an agent with custom made wings…

Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce
Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce

As stated previously, Captain America’s not that alone with Agent Romanov (Scarlett Johansson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce, all along for the ride. A big S.H.I.E.L.D. fiesta.

The Captain's New Clothes
The Captain’s New Clothes

IMDB also lists Emily VanCamp as Peggy Carter descendent and longtime comic ally to Steve Rogers,  ‘Agent 13.’

Even Peggy (Hayley Atwell) and young Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) are listed, leading the the awesome conclusion there will be at least a few flashbacks to Captain America’s WWII days.

The world has changed, and Steve Rogers is still getting used to it (though he does have his updated suit of stars). Rather than punishing evil after it happens, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury are all about preventing terrorism. Is Rogers too idealistic? Because Nick Fury says that S.H.I.E.L.D. sees the world as it is, not as they want it to be.

“This isn’t freedom, this is fear.” – Steve Rogers

DEAR MR. WATTERSON – The Documentary on ‘Calvin and Hobbes’

Calvin and HobbesWho doesn’t like ‘Calvin and Hobbes?’

You don’t?

Fuck off!

But seriously, ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ is surely the greatest comic strip of all time; written at a level children can enjoy yet transcending adult themes being deeply rooted in philosophy. Through the use of Calvin’s childhood imagination the comic strip also transcends genres; from outer space adventures to serious strips where the style changes completely (see below).

Calvin plays house. Why so serious? (Because it looks awesome!)

It’s certainly my favorite comic strip. I read it as a child and enjoy it on a deeper level today.

A JACK RYAN for the 21st (or is it 24th?) Century

Jack Ryan is back! After a long hiatus following the worst film the the “Jack Ryan” franchise.

In an age where subtitles appear bigger than the franchise name (see below; MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL & STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS – also starring Chris Pine) comes JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT, a franchise that seems to be attempting to cast as many actors to play the Tom Clancy character as have played other, more well known icons like 007 and Batman.

Wait... all the logos are for Paramount films.. is this a paramount Paramount conspiracy? (Pun very much intended).
Wait… all the logos are for Paramount films.. is this a paramount Paramount conspiracy? (Pun very much intended).

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit PosterJACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT seems to be a reboot to the franchise. Jack gets his first ‘in-the-field’ mission, just as he did in HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER.

Instead of Ben Affleck and Morgan Freeman (both will now have worked in the Batman-universe), Harrison Ford and James Earl Jones, or Alec Baldwin and… again… James Earl Jones, this time we have Capt’Kirk himself, Chris Pine, playing Ryan with Kevin Costner as his government contact/father-figure/aid.

The first Jack Ryan movie not based off an actual Tom Clancy novel (notice the poster says ‘based on the characters created by Tom Clancy), is also the first Jack Ryan film to have the character’s name in the title. All because, unlike in the days of CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER and PATRIOT GAMES, HWood knows we are too stupid to make the connection unless all upcoming films carry ‘JACK RYAN’ in the title.

I kind of like it, as long as Paramount keeps using subtitles instead of numbers. Numbers date a movie (which is why even Marvel dropped them after the IRON MAN franchise), though SHADOW RECRUIT sounds it could be just as much the name for the next MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE film. GHOST PROTOCOL… SHADOW RECRUIT… tell me I’m not the only one who thinks these spy titles aren’t generic, focus-group tested, Hollywood executive garbage!

The trailer and more! After the jump! Continue reading “A JACK RYAN for the 21st (or is it 24th?) Century”

That Ain’t KHAN In the New INTO DARKNESS Trailer.

Fact: Khan was never one of Starfleet’s “Top Agents.” So Benedict Cumberbatch is like a Jason Bourne, 007, or just a badass navy seal? With a vendetta against Starfleet? Sweet.

More thoughts after jump!

USS Enterprise Crashes To EarthLast night, sports geeks gathered around the TV, but the real feast was to be had for cinephiles like myself.

EVIL DEAD Remake Red Band Trailer #2

I love me some original EVIL DEAD (and especially ARMY OF DARKNESS), but is this… wait…

Was I about to ask the cliched, “is this really necessary?” remake question?

Evil Dead (2013)Of course it’s not necessary! (Even more so considering EVIL DEAD 2 is already more or less a remake of EVIL DEAD).

OBLIVION Trailer or Why I Love Tom Cruise SciFi Movies… Always & Forever

I don’t care what they think. I fucking love me a Tom Cruise movie. It doesn’t matter how cheesy or corny the material is, Tom Cruise acts the shit out of everything. He never half-asses it.

“WHO ARE YOU?!?!”

Oblivion Movie PosterTom Cruise is basically a human Wall-E, the same kind of everyman we see in WAR OF THE WORLDS.

A man with a New York Yankees cap… and fucking stormtrooper armor.

Then. Shit. Gets. Real.

I just hope it’s better than TRON: LEGACY. Don’t fuck this up, Joseph Kosinski! Tom is bringing gold to the table. Again I say:

“WHO ARE YOU?!?!”

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Teaser 1

Benedict Cumberbaugh
Gary Mitchell? Is that you? Khan never had super powers…

I still think he’s Gary Mitchell

https://breakinggeek.com/2012/12/05/star-trek-into-darkness-synopsis-totally-confirms-villain-why-so-curious/

Especially with the cute short-haired blond, and the first officer threads worn by Kirk in STAR TREK (2009). He’s back to wreak havoc on all the puny mortals, for now, Mitchell is a God.

Kirk reacting to the return of an old college? Or the death of a friend (very little Bones in the trailer, which worries me).
