Podcast #20: Say, Would You Like A Chocolate Covered Pretzel?

Nick and Andrew have a full plate this week, starting with trailer talk about ‘Mission Impossible – Rogue  Nation,’ and the latest ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ TV Spot.

Tangents abound, our heroes hit topics like ‘Mallrats 2,’ the ‘Legend 0f Zelda’ Netflix show (or lack there of), Star Trek villain rumors,  live action ‘Star Wars’ TV Show rumors, which as always, a trip down superhero lane with ‘Batman Vs. Superman: Justice Begins’ rumors.

Rumors may be the theme of the week…

MALLRATS 2 – The 6 Characters Confirmed to Return

Mallrats is my favorite Kevin Smith movie. Though I was a die-hard Kevin Smith (who was in a Die Hard film) fan in college, the honeymoon phase ended around the time of Red State, when Smith finally became the Pot Head foreshadowed by his classic role as Silent Bob. Around the time of  Tusk, I returned to Smith like an Ex desperately wanting to get back together. I’ve been especially excited after the announcement of Clerks III, if for nothing else, than the return of Jay and Silent Bob.Jay and Silent Bob in Clerks

In fact, I think you can chart my Kevin Smith fandom using Jay and Silent Bob. Smith’s movies just haven’t been the same since Smith left the “View Askewniverse” behind (except for Zack and Miri Make A Porno, which was pretty great), and I’m glad he’s returning to Mallrats in addition to Clerks.

It’s time to get the gang back together. And not just Jay and Silent Bob.

In addition to Smith’s two famous universe connecting heroes, four other cast members from the original 1995 film are confirmed for Mallrats 2. And they may not be who you think…

That's Steve Dave and Fanboy on the right, from Dogma, played by Brian Johnson and Walter Flanagan of 'Tell 'Em Steve Dave' and 'Comic Book Men' fame.
That’s Steve Dave and Fanboy on the right, from Dogma, played by Brian Johnson and Walter Flanagan of ‘Tell ‘Em Steve Dave’ and ‘Comic Book Men’ fame.

Just don’t expect Brodie’s cousin Walt to show up… though Steve Dave and Fanboy will hopefully return! (Please, Kevin Smith! Pwetty Pwease!)

Fun Fact: Brodie is based on Walt Flanagan, a friend of Smith’s who has appeared in Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob, a host of my favorite Podcast TESD (Tell ‘Em Steve Dave), and star of AMC’s Comic Book Men. Walt being a comic enthusiast who carried a tiny cup of Pepsi whilst shopping for deals at the mall and the flea market. Hence, Brodie’s stories about his “cousin Walt.”

Now let’s get off to the races!

Jason Mewes as Jay.Jason Mewes as Jay in Mallrats

‘Nuff Said.

Kevin Smith as Silent Bob.Kevin Smith as Silent Bob in Mallrats

Fly, Fatass, fly!

Jason Lee as Brodie!Jason Lee as Brodie in Mallrats

Though he wasn’t the main lead, per say, Jason Lee’s Brodie is by far my favorite View Askew character and seems the most essential actor/character for a sequel to Mallrats. We’ve already seen him once since Mallrats, in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (my 2nd fav Kevin Smith film), when Jay and Silent Bob run into Brodie at Brodie’s Secret Stash (a play on Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, Smith’s actual comic book store where Comic Book Men is shot).

And just like his past two appearances, Jason Lee’s announcement tweet about returning to the world of Mallrats still invites you to enjoy a delicious chocolate covered pretzel!Jason Lee returns as Brodie in Mallrats 2 Chocolate Covered Preztle

Shannen Doherty as Rene.Mallrats Rene Poster

Because, really, what would Brodie be up to without Rene?

Michael Rooker as Jared Svenning!Mallrats Stink Palm Brody Jason Lee

Rooker is hotter than ever between The Walking Dead and his turn as Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy. Yet he still has time to return for the sequel to what may have been the biggest flop of his career. Yet, that whole Stink Palm scene has given him legendary status before he ever fought Zombies or Ronan.

The only question here is, how does he play in to the movie, IF Claire Forlani doesn’t return as his daughter Brandi? He is simply Brodie’s nemesis now?

Claire Forlani as Brandi in MallratsBrandi may return, but no announcement has been made yet. Really, I don’t think she or Jeremy London’s TS Quint are crucial to the sequel. For me, Mallrats is all about Brodie.

Finally….

Stan “The Man” Lee.Stan Lee in Mallrats as Stan lee

That’s right, just like a Marvel film, you can’t make a Mallrats movie without Stan Lee, perhaps the wisest person in the View Askewniverse besides Silent Bob. Like his Marvel appearances, Stan Lee will surely just have a small cameo, though he has done a lot of acting (a line at a time) in dozens of Marvel movies since 1995.

Here’s the pic Smith released to announce the cast, sans Jason Lee. (The earlier picture was Jason Lee’s announcement).Mallrats 2 Photo Announcement

So those are the 6 confirmed returning characters: Brodie, Rene, Mr. Svenning, Stan Lee, Jay and Silent Bob.

Now is it too late to add Shannon, the clerk from Fashionable Male? You know, one of Ben Affleck’s first roles? Is Batfelck too busy with the DC universe or can he at least stop by for a cameo?Ben Affleck as Shannon in Mallrats

Kevin Smith shoots Mallrats 2 later this year. And I can’t wait to catch up with Brodie!

‘Avengers’ TV Spot #3 Features New Action For Earth’s Mightiest Heroes

Marvel keeps blessing us with new ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ footage, this time in the form of their 3rd TV Spot. (The 1st can be viewed here)

EDIT: Upon watching the 2nd TV Spot HERE, it looks like most the footage actually comes from that teaser. Still, Marvel has blessed us with with some even newer footage for the 3rd Spot.

Watch it now!

I’m sure we’ll see plenty of new TV Spots between now and May 1st. Marvel Studios has been more than generous with ‘Age of Ultron’ footage.

But can we please get a better look at ‘Ant-Man?’Ant-Man Teaser

Full Length ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ Trailer Gives Ving Rhames and Jeremy Renner Something To Do

The minute-long teaser for the recently titled ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ which dropped yesterday gave us a taste of what to expect from the fifth installment in Tom Cruise’s biggest franchise. And it was delicious.Car and Bike Crash Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

(Check out all my original screen grabs as well to get a real piece of the action!)

Today’s trailer confirms we can have our cake and eat it too.

Watch it now!

Damn. Isn’t that shit great? I have high hopes for Ethan Hunt & team’s latest “Impossible” adventure following ‘Ghost Protocol,’ the franchises best film since the original in 1996 (Damn that makes me feel old…).

“You want to bring down the Syndicate? It’s Impossible.”

Perfect. An Impossible Mission for the recently disbanded IMF (Impossible Mission Force), courtesy of CIA stooge Alec Baldwin. Just as the Syndicate, described as an anti-IMF, seems to be gaining more power.

Someone wants Ethan Hunt dead...
Someone wants Ethan Hunt dead…

With a new (hopefully) ally played by Rebecca Ferguson, Hunt and his team are again off-the-grid with no support, fighting Hunt’s equivalent of 007’s S.P.E.C.T.R.E.

So, what we’ve got here is a lot of new action, a few plot points (Damn you, Alec Baldwin!), and some real footage of Luthor (Ving Rhames) and Agent Brandt (Jeremy Renner) who were mostly absent in yesterday’s teaser. But don’t worry, the new trailer still has plenty of Benji (Simon Pegg).Tom Cruise on Plane Wing Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

And that plane stunt at the end… with Hunt yelling at Benji to open the door (no, the other door!) hits classic Hunt & Benji notes while throwing Cruise into his craziest stunt yet.

Hunt and his team will have to take on “The Syndicate” when ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ is released on July 31st.

The Entire ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ Teaser Trailer in Original Screen Grabs

I have gone ahead and done some more original screen grabs, this time for ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’s 1st trailer. I’ve got shots from every scene, which really reveals how much screen time Simon Pegg as Benji has compared to Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) other teammates, Brandt (Jeremy Renner) and Luthor (Ving Rhames).

Check out all the shots to see what you missed in the quick, 1 minute long trailer!

Tom Cruise Battles IMF’s Version of S.P.E.C.T.R.E. In Trailer for ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’

After being pulled from December back to July 31st to avoid clashing against ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ ‘Mission: Impossible 5’ has been without a title, poster, trailer, and plot synopsis for far too long. (Ethan Hunts saves the world… but how and from whom?) Ethan Hunt Motorcylce Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Now we have all four.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the title and 1st poster for Christopher McQuarrie’s ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,’ the follow up to Brad Bird’s ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ (when they smartened up and dropped the number titling  system in favor of a subtitle). Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation Poster 2015

Like the poster for ‘Ghost Protocol,’ ‘Rogue Nation’s poster highlights the “Impossible” stunt from the film; this time Tom Cruise hangs onto an airplane as it takes off and continues to hang at 6,000 feet (or whatever)!

Benji has quite the disguise... but still no Mask... yet.
Benji has quite the disguise… but still no Mask… yet.

This minute long teaser trailer certainly excites as I have always been a ‘Mission: Impossible’ fan (M:I:2 doesn’t exist). We got motorcycle action! Benji (Simon Pegg) in the field! Quick shots of Agent Brandt (Jeremy Renner) and Luthor (Ving Rhames), back from earlier installments! More action! Alec Baldwin as the CIA director hunting down… well… Ethan Hunt (with the amount of times Tom Cruise is on the run in these films, that last name has got to be a pun… at this point).  The enemy revealed: the Rogue Nation Syndicate – “an anti-IMF. And “Impossible” stunts!

Watch the trailer now and get the synopsis after!

After watching the trailer for ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,’ the official synopsis from Paramount is quite plain and simple:

Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.

Evidence of "The Syndicate. "
Evidence of “The Syndicate. “

“The Syndicate” sure does sound a lot like S.P.E.C.T.R.E., 007’s nemesis agency (as well as the title of the next Bond film): a shadow organization penetrating all areas of worldwide governments in order to control the world. If “The Syndicate” really is an “Anti-IMF,” than that sounds exactly like S.P.E.C.T.R.E. being the anti-MI6.Ethan Hunt in Custody Mission: Impossible - Rogue Agent

Of course, this meaty one-minute trailer is just a teaser for the real trailer dropping TOMORROW! The 23rd!

So now that we have a title, poster, teaser trailer, and synopsis for ‘Rogue Nation!’ And we will be getting yet another, this time full-length, trailer for Ethan Hunt’s latest adventure… in this, 2015, the year of the spy genre.

‘Lego Jurassic World’ Video Game Explores All 4 Films… Complete With Official Dialog!

Thus far, we have only seen a theatrical teaser trailer and a much more revealing Superbowl spot for June 12’s ‘Jurassic World’ starring Chris Pratt.

Now… we have a trailer for ‘Lego Jurassic Park: The Video Game;’ a game that like ‘Lego Indiana Jones’ and ‘Lego Star Wars’ covers all four films in the ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise.Lego Jurassic World PaddockThough the idea seemed silly at first (like a Lego movie…), the Lego games have become the standard for excellent movie adaptations with great control schemes, smart level design, and loads of humor (like ‘The Lego Movie!’).

Lego has cornered the market on Video Game Movie Adaptations, with ‘Lego Indiana Jones’ being the best ‘Indiana Jones’ game ever made and ‘Lego Star Wars’ among the creme of the crop of ‘Star Wars’ video games. These games put Lego on the map and there have been plenty of Lego games since. In fact, the Lego games gave been getting better; giving each hero a unique control scheme in ‘Lego Marvel Heroes’ and making the movie to game adaptation seamless in the form of ‘The Lego Movie: The Video Game.’Lego Jurassic World Sick Dino

Like past Lego games, humor is at the heart of the “Jurassic Wolrd’ game, but unlike ‘Lego Star Wars’ and ‘Lego Indiana Jones,’ ‘Lego Jurassic World’ uses more than visual gags to tell the story. In fact, having  already added dialog to ‘Lego Marvel Heroes’ and ‘Lego Movie: The Video Game,’ ‘Lego Jurassic World’ actually takes dialog directly from all four ‘Jurassic Park’ films. That means you get to hear the voice talents of Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum without the nearly impossible feat of getting the original cast into a recording studio (of course all the actors will get a chunk of the profit).Lego Jurassic World T-RexWhat we have here is the only real ‘Jurassic Park’ game made in years; the only one for current and next-gen titles. TellTale Games, who made their classic “Chapter” style of video games, including past ‘Jurassic Park’ adventures, is making the game with Lego and Warner Bros Games.

With no other ‘Jurassic World’ game in production (maybe there will be an update to the Park Builder games), it looks like Lego has again cornered the market, surely producing the best ‘Jurassic Park’ related game to date… if you can put up with Legos.Lego Jurassic World Jeep Chase

Jeep chases, battling Velociraptors, and John Williams’ score abound, I cannot wait to return to (Lego) Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna (“Site B”)!

New ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Poster Provides Proof We’ll See Another Old Face… Or Four

Though we’ve seen no sign of him in the trailers (like Vision) and his mug isn’t on the New Poster  (unlike Vision who flies above our classic team), said poster still proves that this fan-favorite from ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ made the cut when it comes to the new, almost overfulling roster of Avengers this summer.

I’m talking about Anthony Mackie who plays Sam Wilson/Falcon. Look at the poster below, courtesy of Cinema Blend.

Check out that highlighted name. Yup, that's Anthony Mackie alright.
Check out that highlighted name. Yup, that’s Anthony Mackie alright.

Falcon Poster for 'The Winter Soldier'The poster is crowded as hell, which could be why we don’t see Falcon along with his best friend Steve Rogers aka Captain America. Wilson is not even in the released scene where James Rhodes/War Machine/One-Time Iron Patriot (Don Cheadle) tries to helps team Stark lift Thor’s Hammer. Of course, none are worthy, except for Rogers who pulls the hammer just a few inches… so imagine if he had future-Captain America helping him lift that sucker.

Since we haven’t seen Falcon at all yet, the other explanation is that he is barely in the movie, which is the safest bet. He’ll likely have a small role like Nick Fury, and the Asgardian’s ALSO listed on the poster.

You can also see Tom Hiddleson (Loki), Idris Elba (Asgard’s Gate Keeper), and Stellen Skarsgard (Scientist gone mad in 2012′ ‘Avengers’) made the cast list at the bottom of the poster as well. So more fun from Asgard and Thor’s world!

Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy CarterFinally, even Hayley Atwell makes the cut. A recent fan favorite who premiered in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger,’ appeared as an old woman with CGI make-up magic in ‘The Winter Soldier,’ finally landing her own Marvel One-Shot and mini-series based upon it.

Atwell’s Agent Peggy Carter seems to be  tightly intertwined with the early age of S.H.I.E.L.D. It is assumed that Scarlet Witch messes with the minds of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, controlling the Hulk and sending Captain America into a flashback to what was or what could have been in the 1940s.

Or, Peggy Carter could be used for some exposition on the ‘Ultron Program’ which was dormant before Tony Stark kick-starts it in ‘Age of Ultron’ After all, her show ‘Agent Carter’ delves into the earliest years of the MCU and she is also in the cast for ‘Ant-Man’ which should fill in some gaps around the years of a younger Hank Pym and middle-aged Howard Stark.

Peggy Carter will fill in some blanks in Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man’s origin. Above: Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Michael Douglas as an older Hank Pym.

Whatever the case, watch for fan favorites Falcon, Loki, and Peggy Carter in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ on May 1st!

The New ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Poster Is… Kind of Pretty, Actually.

Marvel Studios has released their official poster Poster for 2012's 'The Avengers'for May 1st’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ (we have only seen a teaser poster up until this point) , the sequel to 2012’s ‘The Avengers.’

Though the painted poster-style of artists like the incomparable Drew Struzan may be dead, the final poster for ‘Age of Ultron’ is way classier and less of a Photoshop mess than the final poster for the 1st film.

Or the Photoshop messes of overcrowded ‘Iron Man 3,’ ‘Thor: The Dark World,’ and ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ posters. (The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ poster was actually pretty sweet…)

Avengers Phase 2 PostersThis poster, though also a Photoshopped hodgepodge, has way more style and is much more pleasing to the eye than Marvel Studios’ previous attempts at a good “final” poster for a film.

Here it is.

The official poster for 'Avengers: Age of Ultron.'
The official poster for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’

There you go. Notice the curved flow of the images, making the poster more pleasing to the eye, as art, than any of the previous posters from Marvel Studios.

Plus, we get Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, AND our best official look at The Vision yet! No “Ultron Prime,” though. Just the Ultron Drones.

And my favorite Avenger, Captain America, is finally front and center where he belongs! Team leader (now with high franchise potential)! Capt.’s not wedged behind Iron Man and Thor like last time!

May 1st can’t come soon enough, kids!

Spider-Man Joins The Avengers In the MCU! All Your Questions Answered Here!

Monday night Marvel made an announcement on their website (web… site… webs… like Spider-Man!) announcing to the world that Sony and Marvel Studios/Disney have reached an agreement to bring Marvel’s most popular character Spider-Man into Marvel’s most successful franchise/universe: the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).

Welcome to the MCU, Web-Head!
Welcome to the MCU, Web-Head!

The official announcement from Marvel’s website is below. Following that quick read, let’s break down what all this means for Spider-Man, Sony, Marvel Studios, and the rest of the MCU’s Phase 3, which has been shuffled due to the addition of a Spider-Man solo pic in 2017.

(Culver City, California, and Burbank, California February 09, 2015) – Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.

The new relationship follows a decade of speculation among fans about whether Spider-Man – who has always been an integral and important part of the larger Marvel Universe in the comic books – could become part of the Marvel Universe on the big screen. Spider-Man has more than 50 years of history in Marvel’s world, and with this deal, fans will be able to experience Spider-Man taking his rightful place among other Super Heroes in the MCU.

Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company said: “Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s great characters, beloved around the world. We’re thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building.”Amazing Spider-Man 2 Crouch

“We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchises and develop our characters. Marvel, Kevin Feige and Amy, who helped orchestrate this deal, are the perfect team to help produce the next chapter of Spider-Man,” said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment. “This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans.”

“Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker’s story into the future,” added Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.

“I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years.”

Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

Let’s put all this in Layman’s terms. I’ll answer the questions this deal raises right now!

Does Marvel Studios Own the ‘Spider-Man’ License now?

Spider-Man has a love history with Captain Marvel... who is also getting a solo movie in Phase 3.
Spider-Man has a love history with Captain Marvel… who is also getting a solo movie in Phase 3.

No. In fact, no money has changed hands. Marvel doesn’t need to pay Sony  anything for Spider-Man’s inclusion in the MCU. Sony doesn’t need to pay Marvel Studios any money for their characters’ appearances in ‘Spider-Man’ films.

Spider-Man will make an appearance in a MCU property, most likely 2016’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’ which already features Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Anthony Mackie back from ‘Winter Soldier’ as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Frank Grillo back as Brock Rumlow now running around as Crossbones, new classic Capt. villain Baron Zemo played by Daniel Bruhl, and introducing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther.

That’s a very full playing field and I would be worried, but the same writers and directors from ‘Winter Soldier’ are returning and, simply put, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ is the best MCU film yet.Captain America: The Winter Soldier

After appearing in ‘Civil War’ made by Marvel Studios (there’s a small chance Spider-Man may instead appear in 2016’s ‘Dr. Strange,’ but that hero pairing makes less sense), Spider-Man will get his own solo-pic on July 28th, 2017.

Marvel makes the MCU movie, Sony does all production on the solo-Spider-Man films like the apparent “reboot” of Spider-Man as a member of the MCU. They split the money.

Sony saves their crumbling 4 billion dollar ‘Spider-Man’ franchise (after ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ fell below expectations and alienated Spider-Man fans who have seen 3 bad films too many) with the might and creative input of Marvel’s incredibly successful MCU overseen by Kevin Feige.

Sony keeps all rights and has all final say on the new ‘Spider-Man’ films, though Feige will partner with Amy Pascal, who recently stepped down as President of Sony to head the production company handling Spider-Man for Sony.

Sony gets the good-will of the MCU and Marvel gets to use Spider-Man in their extended universe.

They will split the profits as they have in the past with the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise.

What Does This Deal Mean For ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ and ‘Sinister Six?’

There’s a bit of confusion here. Since Marvel is introducing a new Spider-Man, said to be high-school age to contrast the older Avengers who are all in their thirties and forties, it seems Andrew Garfield is out. It is also assumed the ‘Amazing’ header is kaput, with a brand new era starting for the web-slinger.

Spider-Man vs. green Goblin in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2'There are reports that Sony still wants to make ‘Sinister Six,’ ‘Venom,’ and a female-team-up with characters from Spider-Man’s universe like Spider-Woman. It is not clear how these fit in the new continuity, as ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ was basically a big set-up for ‘Sinister Six,’ and now it appears we are entering a new age of Spidey, ignoring not only the original Sam Raimi films but the Marc Webb directed ‘Amazing’ titles.

VenomHow Sony gets the other projects off the ground is a mystery; the scariest part of the equation. As they don’t need to consult Marvel with these titles which could be as poorly handled as ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2.’

‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’ appears to be dead, making way for a new title. Is it back to ‘Spider-Man’ with a subtitle (please!) or another book’s name like ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ or ‘The Sensational Spider-Man.’

Is Andrew Garfield Returning?

No! Both Garfield and director Webb are out of the equation now. Rejoice!

This movie is still about Peter Parker right?

Miles Morales from Marvel's 'Ultimate' Universe

Not necessarily. Unless I missed it, the name Peter Parker is never mentioned in the announcement.

One way to shake up the franchise is to not use Peter at all and instead go with Miles Morales, who took over for Spider-Man in the ‘Ultimate’ Comics Universe after Peter Parker was killed by the Green Goblin.

Mile Morales is black, which would be an amazing change for the franchise. Is the story of a black nerd in Queens any different than if he was white?

You could even keep the name Peter Parker and go black. I really want the franchise to go this direction, mainly because I think comedian/rapper/actor Donald Glover would be an amazingly geeky, yet hilarious Spider-Man. Sony needs a funny-man like Glover to make those quips quippy enough for Spidey.

All this being said, Sony is apparently looking at Dylan O’Brien from MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’ and ‘The Maze Runner’ and Logan Lerman from ‘Fury’ suggesting Spider-Man will remain a white Peter Parker.

What Does This Mean for the Rest of the MCU?

Black Panther 2017It’s shuffle time. Marvel may have already released their ‘Phase 3’ lineup last year, but the addition of Spider-Man shakes things up. First, by hitting July 2017 he takes ‘Black Panther’s release date, pushing Panther’s solo movie to November. Other films are pushed by several months including pushing the ‘Inhumans’ movie to AFTER ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Part 1 & 2.

Spider-Man’s inclusion in ‘Civil War’ could possibly bump or drastically shrink Black Panther’s role in that film.

Who knows what other changes Spider-Mans addition to the MCU will cause, as he could be a main player in a new Avengers team containing newbies Black Panther, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, a Bucky Barnes or Sam Wilson Captain America, and likely Quicksilver and his sister Scarlet Witch in ‘Infinity War’ and beyond! As long as Sony and Marvel continue to play nice.

Who Wins?

Everyone! Hopefully.

Sony gets the Marvel Studios bump to save their ‘Spider-Man’ property. Hopefully Kevin Feige’s influences improve the quality of films to a point even above Raimi’s.

Marvel Studios gets to use Spider-Man in at least one film, if not through Phase 3 and possibly 4. Their characters, like Daredevil, can also cross over into a Sony made, Spider-Man solo film.

Spider-Man and RocketWe get to see Spider-Man alongside our new favorite heroes. Rocket and Spider-Man shooting the shit in ‘Avengers: Infinity War?’ Why not!

Rejoice! We’ve all won something special, something to look forward to for years to come.

I have here a load of screen grabs of all the new key moments in the 2nd ‘Jurassic World’ trailer that aired with the Superbowl. (I choose not to screen-grab the shit we’ve already seen. For brevity’s sake, bro.)

Now, I couldn’t find the trailer any higher def than 720p, so these glorious pics ain’t HD as hell, but there is still much to glean and enjoy their beauty.

Training Time

Chris Pratt proves he can outdo Robert Muldoon by training the clever creatures. (I refrain from using that ole’ JP pun… for now…)
