Now for the Picks!
My first pick is Secret Avengers #35. The Secret Avengers is consistently one of my favorite Avengers titles and one of the few Marvel titles that hasn’t made the switch to Marvel NOW. This issue continues a storyline that I have found incredibly entertaining. This story has the secret Avengers split into two groups one fighting robots and the other traveling to Earth-666. The trip to Earth-666 is some good comic fun. In a world filled with not just evil, or opposite versions of the avengers but monster versions of the avengers the secret Avengers have to find the Orb of Necromancy. This is a storyline that could only work in a comic book format, and I love it. The other group of Avengers fighting robots are following an arc that has been progressing in this series for a long time and you can feel it reaching an action-packed climax. I hope that when this book does make the switch to Marvel NOW it continues to be my favorite Avengers book.
I feel obligated to make this one of my picks and this pick may be more spoiler filled then normal. Whether your a Spiderman fan or not this is an issue that should be picked up. Reading what will be Peter Parker’s last issue (at least for a while) is almost a little depressing. Lucky for us in the world of comic books there is no way that they will leave Peter dead for more than a year or two. Even so reading this issue can really get a guy down, especially if you have been following Peter’s adventures for very long. Watching MJ tell Spiderman that she loves him, is what should be a great moment of happiness, but is instead a sad moment of missed opportunities now that Doc Ock is in control. I certainly don’t trust the evil mastermind that is Dr. Octavius to do what is right for anyone other than himself. I’m sure it will be an interesting read to watch how they handle this monumental change in the Marvel U, even if it is only for a bit.
